We here at Tommy With a Candle Burning are currently assessing whether Wordpress is the best choice for this blog. We might move over to Blogger by google to make things more efficient. Until this is sorted out we aren’t going to post even though there is some stuff written that will be going up right after we decide what to do. So we shall be back. Probably after graduation when the slump that is the end of college ends.

Moment of Truth

What is wrong with people? I find myself asking this question every single day and I now find myself wondering this more than ever. Moment of truth is a reality show on the FOX network which quizzes a contestant on very personal and revealing questions. The way you “win” is simply by telling the truth. I watched a recent episode where a woman ruined her marriage and reputation for the viewing pleasure of America. This retard answered the question “have you ever had sexual relations with someone other than your husband?” with a “to be honest….yeah.” (more…)

Trust In Teaching

I am currently enrolled in a postgraduate program for public policy and leadership and I am extremely disappointed in the experience. I have never been particularly good at engaging in school. But I had high hopes for the program I am in right now. I entered the program wanting to learn how to think in a new way. I wanted to learn how to make a difference. I wanted to learn not only how to have a voice but how to be heard. Instead I am being taught to be a midlevel follow the leader policy analyst. I am being taught to be just like everyone else, just like those who have come before me, another cookie cutter in a cubicle. (more…)

Helvetica

While browsing through my netflix recommendations I noticed a documentary simply called Helvetica. Why I was recommended this I do not know. It isn’t that I have something against documentaries. When I watch them I tend to find them to be interesting but I really don’t watch them often. This particular documentary stood out thought. After all it was a documentary about the font Helvetica. Must be a damn impressive font to make a movie about it. I read the description and apparently Helvetica is the most impressive and most widespread font ever. It is everywhere. It has played an important role in our existence. If Google doesn’t own the world then it must be because Helvetica isn’t ready to sell yet. (more…)

Adult Poker

So I was hanging out with some of my friends, just chillin and stuff. I was playing a little bit of poker while we were chilling. So we were discussing poker and one of my friends mentioned something about porn and so we started joking about an Adult Poker site. Although calling a poker site Adult is kind of ironic because poker sites are adult anyway. Crazy how loaded the word Adult has become. Anyway, we decided to look up adult poker on google thinking that someone must have had the idea to combine online poker and online porn. (more…)

Awesome Genius

Yesterday I watched Jay-z’s concert dvd Fade to Black and was able to watch genius in action. The reason I got the dvd off of netflix is because of a youtube video I saw that had Timbaland and Jay-z collaborating to make Dirt Off Your Shoulder. The youtube video is easily one of the coolest videos I have ever seen on youtube. It is truly watching genius at work. Jay-z immediately knew which beat was perfect and just like that he started composing the rap by performing and arranging on the fly. (more…)

It’s Words Words Words

It is when my mind starts to leave my control that I feel most brilliant, most capable of having a real impact, of becoming immortal. I used to be afraid of this apparent loss of control. Thoughts would spin through my head so rapidly I’d barely be able to keep up. It was through sharing these thoughts, talking about them, writing them down, that I was able to bring the order to my mind that I needed. Now I must share. I no longer remember how to not share. The more I think, the more my thoughts spin around, the more interested I become in everything. Because everything is related to everything. This blog will be a map, or a history, or maybe simply a sounding board for the insanity that wanders within. It will be my random ramblings, my thought out theories, my opinions informed and otherwise, my rants and raves, my moods and analyses. It will be a little bit of everything. The inside of my mind. The talk therapy that is my cure and my gift.
